University of Plymouth ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 1862 ในเมือง Plymouth นับเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่จัดอยู่ในอันดับต้นๆ ของกลุ่ม Modern University ของ UK นอกจากนี้ในด้านผลงานทางด้านวิชาการ และการวิจัย Plymouth University ยังถูกจัดให้อยู่ในกลุ่ม World leading หรือ International Excellent โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในสาขาวิชา เช่น Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Geography &Environment Science และ Art & Design ด้านของงานวิจัยยังถูกจัดอยู่ใน 1 ใน 50 มหาวิทยาลัยแรกที่มีผลงานการวิจัยในเชิงคุณภาพ
